The Story of Big Books
To know the origin story of Big Books, we must first listen to the incredible story of a school teacher who singlehandedly built a publishing empire bringing revolutionary changes in the Indian book business and production. Launched in May 1981. Parul Prakashani is a leading publishing house in Eastern India that brings out e-books and p-books in the domains of Literature, Academics, and Education. The journey of Parul Prakashani as a publishing house began in May 1981. A self-study guide for Madhyamik students, the first of its kind in Tripura, was published. The publisher was a young mathematics teacher from Bardowali Higher Secondary School in Agartala: Mr. Gourdas Saha who named the house after his mother.
The budding publishing house began its stride with a few titles. Mr. Saha devoted a whole decade (the 80s) to the making and standardization of self-study and reference books for primary, secondary, and higher secondary students. Mr. Saha took the publishing world of Tripura by storm by bringing out Tripura Madhyamik Test Papers followed by the equally successful Tripura Higher Secondary Test Papers. This initiative greatly benefited students of Tripura. Their preparation for their respective board exams could now reach perfection. In the early 90s, Parul Prakashani stepped into the world of literature. Raajmala, the ancient history of the royal family of Tripura, was brought out in four volumes. A series of titles followed that included fiction and non-fiction. The Kolkata centre of Parul Prakashani became functional in 2003. My. Saha decided to bring academic books for the students of West Bengal. However, his passion for literature paved the way for the beautifully illustrated Parul Juvenile Literature.
In the second decade of the new millennium, Mr. Saha focussed on modernizing his company by embracing new printing technologies, a whole new marketing strategy, and an upgraded standard in editing. The Tripura and West Bengal centric business has now expanded to all corners of the country. The publishing business of General Books was reinvented by launching Muhurtakatha, a short fiction series containing classic short stories of Bengali fiction. Mr. Saha won the hearts of the children by launching four coloured graphic novels and comics.
Big Books was established in 2016 to meet the requirements of the education book industry, particularly those of the ICSE and CBSE curriculums. We have been working tirelessly to give high quality, up to date, and error-free content for exams to students all around the country since the beginning.
Big Books, a sister concern of Parul Prakashani Pvt. Ltd, has been producing content for the last seven years that is unmatched for nearly all areas of schooling. Not only are our books specifically designed to help students prepare for exams, following the most recent syllabus updates and prescribed patterns, but we also regularly update all of our publications to reflect changes and revisions to the curriculum. Because of this Big Books– which offers Text Books, Study Guides, Reference Books, books for the Science Olympiad and General Knowledge- has become a new participant in the Indian academic book market.
With its headquarters in Kolkata, West Bengal, and a representative office in New Delhi, Big Books, led by Mr. Joyjit Saha, Proprietor, serves the educational needs of students all around the country. On our dedicated website, all of our books are accessible online around the clock.
Methodical, pragmatic and experienced, Mr. Gourdas Saha knows that advances in technology transportation, and business models have enabled companies of all sizes to enter Pan-Indian and International markets once thought to be the exclusive domain of giant enterprises. As a result, Parul Prakashani and Big Books are on a roll towards making a larger impact in the national publishing scenario.
