John Griffith Chaney, known by the pseudonym Jack London (1876-1916), was born in San Francisco, California, into a working-class family. He had to earn his livelihood by doing odd jobs. He wrote other books like White Fang and The Sea-Wolf. However, he is known widely as the author of The Call of the Wild. Published in 47 languages, it is still one of the best-known stories written by an American author and continues to be read and taught in schools.
